Wildlife pond garden

Garden project: design with a pond as the focal point

This gorgeous thatched cottage in Berkshire held little attraction for wildlife, so water was incorporated into the design.
This gorgeous thatched cottage is in an idyllic position with views over the Berkshire Downs. The only downside was that the garden didn’t match the house and there was little in it to attract all the wildlife the owners were keen to see in their garden.

Using water as an attraction

The best way to attract wildlife into the garden is to provide water and so it was agreed that a pond should be incorporated into the design. The garden is spacious and the owners and Daniel decided that there was plenty of room to make the wildlife pond and jetty to be the main feature.

Trees and plants we chosen with care to make sure that there is enough to attract insects and feed the birds in summer. After just one season swallows and a plethora of other birds have already found the pond. What a delight it is to sit in the evening sun watching swallows swoop over the garden!
