This plant brings such richness to the garden and house at this time of year. Its leaves turn a striking fiery red colour, which echoes the glowing embers and warmth of a hearth. As the weather turns colder, the colours of the leaves warm up a fading garden – it’s an autumnal abundance that’s not to be missed!
Unlike ivy, Virginia Creeper does not penetrate walls but rather delicately lays suckers onto the brickwork. An uninteresting corner of a building can be transformed in just a few years. Once the leaves drop it can be pruned back in order to manage it. It is a plant that needs some attention, but I think it really is worth it!
