Creating the ‘wow’ factor
There were precious ornaments and in particular, a rather wonderful bench, imported from Indonesia to consider. The obvious place for the bench was in front of a rather fine wall. Above all, the garden had to be unified, to blend in naturally with the house. As is the case with many town houses, the view from the large picture window had to be considered with care. We wanted to create a ‘wow’ factor for the clients to have something of interest to see all year round from the house.
This is a busy garden, with lots of colour, planters and ornaments to be fitted into a relatively small space but it manages to appear uncluttered and fits harmoniously together. Most people living in towns and cities, where space is at a premium, have smaller gardens where the key to success in design is quality not quantity. Small gardens need bulk. Far more impact can be created with just a few species as opposed to cramming the space full of favourite plants leaving a cramped, cluttered look.
