The design centred on extending the interior of the house, which was decorated in a contemporary style, into the garden. The owner wanted the planting to have some evergreen element but with seasonal colour. Jamie worked with the owner to interpret his ideas and bring them to life. Inspired by the owner’s artwork, the design of the hedges, grasses and rill became an extension of the house into the garden, incorporating a wonderful corten steel water feature, clean decking and block planting.
The mirror pool is surrounded by a mixed hardwood decking, complimenting the corten steel. We used a black dye in the water to enhance the reflective quality. Structural planting of yew hedges as a backdrop to wafting grasses and hydrangea ‘Annabelle’ give the garden an ethereal feel the colour scheme was chosen to be muted and calm, and to provide subtle colour through the seasons so that well into the autumn the hydrangeas are a lovely, deep bronze colour.
