The brief for the Garden Landscaping design
Often a garden evolves over the years with no particular planning, as was the case with this Wantage garden. A fresh pair of eyes is sometimes required to see the possibilities and make the most of the given space.
The key to a good garden design is for it to sit well in its surroundings – to be almost a seamless transition from the outside to inside space. A grand house requires a grand entrance and access to the rest of the garden. In this case, we designed the formal steps as a transition from the patio surrounding the property into a more relaxed ‘family feel’ garden.
A requirement for some privacy on the upper terrace was met with specially trained pleached trees and evergreen planting. A retaining wall from the upper to lower garden level was renovated in keeping with the new design with the resulting effect being a timeless shift from new to old.
We recently re-visited this garden and were so pleased to see just how much the family are enjoying their outdoor space.
We’re very happy with the garden. It’s been interesting seeing how it has developed and changed as time goes by. – Rob and Ellie, Wantage
