Garden Design South East England – A Total Garden Makeover
Our clients already had their designed when they approached us for a quotation for the landscaping work to be done. An extension had recently been built and they were looking to fill in their existing swimming pool. They wanted that area to be landscaped to create more space in their garden and an area of lawn levelled by building a retaining wall. In addition, the clients wanted a lighting scheme and irrigation system, which given the hot summer was extraordinarily prescient!
Good garden design is essentially simple and fit for purpose. Not everyone wants a swimming pool in their back garden, some, as our clients in this example, preferred the gentle background sound of a water feature, a lion’s head mask.
In a larger garden, such as this, the area can be divided into separate ‘rooms,’ each with a different theme or purpose, but there must be a broad overview of the whole composition to ensure that the different components are in harmony. In this example, the colour of the bespoke chair (supplied by Oxford Planters) matches the colour of the trellis work, to give pleasing unity.
Our vision for the garden
Although the clients already had a design, Emma enhanced this by introducing a curved path and pergola in symmetry with the retaining walls and drawing up planting plants to give all year colour and interest for the whole garden. Plants are really the ‘icing on the cake’ of a successful design. The majority of the work in this garden went into the building of the retaining walls, pergolas and pathways but when Emma and all the plants arrived it really brought the garden to life.
